Not that this possible link is new, but it is in the news again. The gist of the new findings is this: The electromagnetic radiation that is emitted from a cell phone DOES effect the brain. What is still in question is whether this radiation causes cancer. Here is a link to one article that discusses the finding: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=%2Fc%2Fa%2F2011%2F02%2F23%2FMNCO1HS9QJ.DTL During both pregnancies I stayed away from my cell phone as much as possible. I am not really a chat on the phone or texter type of person to begin with, so this wasn’t hard for me. Though some people thought I was being extreme, I look at it as I was cautiously protecting my unborn children.
Since they were born, my children have been exposed to cell phones more than I would like. Well meaning family and friends hold the phones just inches away from my children to take their pictures, have the cell phones in their pockets or a few feet away from them while they hold and play with the kids, and sometimes give my 2 1/2 year old the phone to walk around with. Maybe it’s the mother warrior in me, but it really bothers me! After all, they are my children and I would rather them not be exposed to the radiation from the phones whether it’s been proven that they cause cancer or not. I like to err on the side of caution rather than wake up in 5 years to a report that says cell phones definitely do cause brain tumors. I realize that I cannot protect my children from every single electromagnetic field there is, since they are all around us, but I can do my best to minimize their exposure until the time when I will have to give in to them when they want a phone of their own – do you think I can hold them off until they graduate high school :)?
